Be Mine

This Valentine's Day I thought I would put it all out there! I felt the need to make a card that speaks for it's self. 

I have been really pushing myself to incorporate graphic design with paper crafts. My main inspiration this time is Michelangelo's David. Oh how proud my art history teacher must be :) I designed almost all of this card in Adobe Illustrator. I posterized the image and placed David looking at the sentiment which is in a classic Roman font. David is holding a perfectly placed 3D rose in his hand. I have a bin of these tiny, beautiful roses in my craft room and knew they would be perfect to make this card have the wow factor it needed.

This card is so unique from most Valentine's I see in the crafting community I had to enter it into a number of contests.

Birds of a Feather

I need to start this post with a confession. Most people don't know this about me but... I am terrified of birds! I know it sounds strange but they are strange to me. I don't know why anyone would trust something that has a beak, claws, and can fly! 


With that being said I decided to conquer my fear (sort of) and do a bird card. You will notice I couldn't actually use an image of a bird. I have been wanting to use a new embossing folder for the Cuttlebug for a while now. I used the most perfect pearly purple card stock with the peacock feather embossing folder. I added analogous colors using metallic purple, blue and green to the embossed background. I stamped an image of the feather and colored it with the same pens. I framed the feather out and ran a sheer green ribbon behind it to make it really stand out. I put it all on a gold background and added some gold highlights to make this card super fancy.

My First Challenge

I have been looking for ways to get exposure for my first blog. What better way than to enter into the Moxie Fab World?! Paper Crafts Magazine was my motivation to start a blog and gave me confidence to share my crafts with the world.

This card was created for the Die Cutting Challenge in the Moxie Fab World. I used die cuts in three different ways to create this eye catching card. The finished size is 5 1/2 X 4 1/4

First lets talk about the glamorous focal point of the card. The dragon fly was created using blue and light aqua glitter card stock. Black card stock was used for the top die cut to make the image pop. The dragonfly was cut using Provo Crafts Cricut machine. Rhinestones were used to add that extra sparkle. 

I chose a warm, buttery orange card stock for the background to compliment the colors used on the dragonfly. I used my Cuttlebug to emboss the background card stock with a flower that was pre-cut from chip board. I placed rhinestones in the center to make this flower pop even more. 

Using my Cuttlebug again, I cut out the unique shape for the background. I placed this all on a high gloss white card for even more shimmer and shine. I cut rounded corners so there is nothing square about this card.

Graphic Design meets Paper Crafts

My first project idea was to create graphic paper crafts. In order to do this, I first started with a digital illustration of a penguin. I have a few different zoo animals on file but the penguin ended up being my favorite. I printed him out (his name is Arty) on bright white card stock. I knew just the prefect ribbon to use to take this design into the world of paper crafts. Polka dots are my absolute favorite pattern! They are amazing :) A simple bow at the top and done. A simple, bold, and graphic card. 

This business might not work out if I end up wanting to keep all the cards I make.
